Volunteers Needed

We will be at crisis capacity shortly. PLEASE watch our Petfinder if you are interested in adopting - we will be listing about 73 rats in the next few weeks. We NEED fosters, ESPECIALLY quarantines at this time. We also are seeking SMALL bar-spaced cages at this time.

We are always looking for volunteers... We can't do this without your help!

Volunteer positions (which is every position here at RLR!) obviously are not paid positions (although we DO try supply most items needed to Q-Tine and Foster Homes whenever possible but we also ask that you be ready to pick up supplies when needed, when possible), but helping Rattie Love Rescue out will give you a good feeling that you're a part of something great. You are! Foster homes also get first-pick at rats, if they'd like to adopt!

We have the following opportunities available for anyone who wants to help. Please read the information and let us know if you can help! You are more then welcome to let us know you're available for multiple "positions", by the way. Please note: You must be 18 years of age or older to apply as a volunteer at this time, however, families are VERY much welcome!

Please spread the word to family and friends, too. We can always use more help!

Quarantine Foster Homes

Quarantining new rats that come in is vital to keeping our rescue rats healthy! If you do not have pet rats or other rodents in your home, you can be a Q-Tine home! We ask that you refrain from contact with other rodents during the time you quarentine. We also ask that you refrain from visiting pet stores where possible. Quarentine homes house the rats for 3 weeks total (unless you decide to continue on fostering them after the q-tine period is over) after which, we will bring them back to the rescue.

We will tell you what to keep an eye out for, how to care for them, etc, if you are new to rats. If you've had rats in the past, you probably know all this information, but we're always willing to give a refresher! A lot of our foster homes are past rat owners and enjoy being foster homes that quarantine for us. Sometimes, the rats come from abusive, neglectful or hording situations and may be fearful or aggressive. We will "train" you on how best to handle these situations. We also get in pregnant mothers or litters, which can be a fun and rewarding experience!

This is also a good way to "trial run" owning pet rats if you haven't in the past. You'll probably know if it's something you'd like to commit to after 3 weeks!

If you adopt any of the rats, you can no longer quarantine for us... But you can still foster!

Please contact us if you can help. This is a position that is ALWAYS needed desperately. The more quarantine homes we have, the more rats we can save. Without quarantine homes, we can't save any!

Foster Homes

Foster homes are much like Q-tine homes. However, you can have your own pet rats and still foster! Rats taken to foster homes will have already be quarantined. Everything else above applies, for the most part.

We ask that you keep your ratkids as long as you'd like, while we find adopters for them. We will be asking if adopters can come to see the rats, though we understand if a foster doesn't wish to have strangers in their house. In that case, we will arrange for a meeting of the rats outside the foster's home. We do pre-approve all adopters who want to visit our rats.

Please contact us if you can help!

Transports

Rats coming in and going out (being adopted!) often need to catch a ride with a caring soul. If you don't mind sparing a bit of cash for some gas, we certainly would love to add you to our database of transporters. When we need help transporting, we'll give you a buzz and see if you're available.
